D.I.Y S.O.S
E.S.M helped the BBC's DIY SOS team in Telford to plan Big Build for Matthew Cooper.
When ESM heard Matthew's story, as a family business with children of our own, we knew we wanted to help. The house would clearly need a huge amount of remodelling and demolition before any changes could be made, enabling the home to be made ready for the young man and his family.
We offered our services free of charge to the head teacher of Matthew's school who was co-ordinating the original project. At a pre-start meeting with her and the DIY SOS team, who had subsequently come on board, it became apparent that a substantial amount of asbestos was present within the property, this was requiring removal to allow the project to move forward.
ESM began our work in December 2016 and removed textured coating containing asbestos from eight rooms within the property and also floor tiles containing asbestos from a further three rooms. This work had to be carried out to a tight time scale so that demolition and ground works could quickly follow on, allowing the construction project to be set in motion.
The BBC team were extremely grateful, as without the essential preparatory work, the final nine day DIY SOS Big Build could not even begin.
